Currently there is a large amont of money being poured into laser fusion research. The goal of this would be to find a way to initiate fusion using only lasers. Since fusion uses only hyrdrogen and produces helium, it would be by the far the cleanest most desirable form of energy available to us. However, the chances of actually producing a system efficient enough to use as a power source is very unlikely. What is much more likely is the development of a system that could by used as a trig...

The most fundamental truth of the Christian life is that God, a perfect being, sent a part of himself to die for us. Think about that for a moment. The only perfect being in the universe was willing to live a life as a man, and endure not just death, but be subjected to one the most brutal forms of execution of the time. And he did this for us. When you consider the fact that we had already been given life by this very same God and proceeded to turn out backs to him, his sacrifice seems even ...

At some point in the past two years I have forgotten why I am headed down my current path in life. I still enjoy what I'm doing, but the fire that drove me before is gone. I realized that what I was headed for was not necessarily the course from which would derive the most satisfactory and fulfilling life. My junior year of college will commence in approximately three weeks. I'll continue studying physics, because I love physics. I will continue to receive A's in my classes because I am g...

Both my roommate and I have preordered the new Harry Potter book. We cannot wait for it to arrive in the mail the day it is released. I'm curious to see if this one will break all the records set by the last one. So who's preordered it already? All those of you that like to speculate, tell me what one character you think is most likely to die. We all know that characters must start dying, since there is to be a war of epic proportions, so which character is going to kick the bucket?

My university, UCSB, beat Duke 5-0 to advance to the NCAA Championship for Division I. I can't belive how awesome this is. I got to see them win 4-1 at home to make it to the semis, and now they're in the final. The game here was crazy. Everyone rushed the field afterward. It was great. Some of my roommates helped hijack one of the goals, but they only made it about 3 blocks away before the police stopped them. Luckily, my roommates escaped arrest. The best part of all this is that the final ...

A girl just ended her relationship with me. Everybody thought this time would be different with her. I thought it would be different. She said it would be different. She was flaky before. She seemed fine this time. Then out of the blue: "I don't think this is going to work. It's not working for me." I'm numb from the shock. At least every other time I could see it coming. I got blindsided this time. And right after my friend stopped talking to me because I was with her. So, needless to say, I...

Yesterday I was talking to one of my friends. I asked him about a girl he mentioned the last time I talked to him. He filled me in. He then asked me whether I had anything going on with the opposite sex. The answer was yes. But I had to make a hard decision very quickly. Because, the girl I'm dating is his ex-girlfriend. Now, if I saw him everyday and I was really good friends with him, I wouldn't date her to begin with. But the reason I'm not real close to him anymore is because she was my e...

I work for a large company. I design control systems for cryofracture plants. What is a cryofracture plant you say? Well, it is a large plant that is meant to dispose of old ammunition without it exploding. For example, the current plant I am working on is meant to destroy what were thought to be inert explosives. Well, someone almost blew their hand off with one during a demonstration. Wisely, the military decided they ought to get rid of these explosives, seeing as how they were useless, ye...

I’m an 18 year old physics undergrad at UCSB. I’ll be starting my second year in three weeks. During summers, I work for General Atomics, mostly working on control systems for cryofracture plants. I read a lot, although not as much as I used to. Movies are great, but generally I find they aren’t worth the eight or so dollars that they cost. I follow soccer with unswerving dedication, while other sports fill in the gaps when I cannot fulfill my desire for soccer. I play racquetball every week ...

I recently got to see The Who in one of only 4 shows in the US in their current tour. I would have to say, it by far blew away any other band I have ever seen. So, what was the best concert you ever went to?
