The most fundamental truth of the Christian life is that God, a perfect being, sent a part of himself to die for us. Think about that for a moment. The only perfect being in the universe was willing to live a life as a man, and endure not just death, but be subjected to one the most brutal forms of execution of the time. And he did this for us. When you consider the fact that we had already been given life by this very same God and proceeded to turn out backs to him, his sacrifice seems even more amazing. It can bring tears to my eyes to think of the awesome love for us all, but especially God’s love for me that puts a shame to my own. But it also brings a supreme joy, for what could be better than the greatest love possible from the greatest being possible, directed at ME?
“Why should I gain from his reward?
I cannot give an answer.
But this I know with all my heart,
His wounds have paid my ransom.”
